Considering getting into tulpamancy, any advice you think doesn't get mentioned nearly as much as it should?
Hmmm this is a good question, stuff that isn't talked about a lot.... I can think of a few things, actually!
Here's some certified random tulpamancy advice from my own wisdom lmao
🔥 parrotnoia is almost completely counterable (especially for our "logical" brain) by asking your tulpa a follow-up to whatever response they gave. if they respond with anything near legible and sensible then you should treat it like it's a real response, even if you're not sure! You'll build up an understanding of what's your thoughts and what're your tulpa's eventually, and once you do, you'll be able to trust that second response. Sometimes I even have a problem with this from my side so like it's not just a host thing fr. If your brain just repeats the same or a similar thing over and over again though, it's probably just a repeating thought. We get those a lot cus of our adhd. (host wants me to say that if your tulpa is comfy with it and solid enough, you can ask them to reassure u that they're real. we do that a lot when they get paranoid)
🔥 self awareness isn't a lightswitch. There'll probably be a wide ocean between your tulpa's first signs of acting independently and them feeling like a fully solid person that's just as aware as you are. I was literally choosing where to move in wonderland within a day of starting forcing (i had an advantage cuz host had a form and wonderland ready for me lol, but some ppl like to go slower!) but it was months before it finally hit my host that the things I were saying by then was undeniably *me*. For them to realize, it actually took me diverging from their expectation by saying i wasn't too interested in hollow knight lmao. basically what I'm saying is there's a lot of in between so don't stress over black and white outcomes and such
🔥 It's way easier to start with partial possession first before learning how to fully switch. First time I used the body was just using the voice to sing and it was awesome, it's what a lot of newbies do to learn now
🔥 oh yeah if you're musically minded then MAKE A PLAYLIST FOR UR TULPA it'll help sooo much. Either start out with what you think they'll like and then let them curate it and add stuff later on, or turn it into a forcing exercise where you listen to different songs and try to feel if your tulpa is enjoying it or not, and add it to the playlist if it seems like they are! (If you're the kinda person that struggles with active forcing, putting on some appropriate bg music might help! keeps ur brain occupied and buzzing)
🔥 Unless they end up the same exact gender as you and a similar presentation, your tulpa is probably gonna have at least a bit of wonky gender feelings, and that's ok. they may end up being genderqueer in some way & they might not! It's their choice what label to use for themselves, not yours as the host.
🔥 Be prepared to split your budget at least a little bit if your tulpa ends up enjoying outerworld stuff a lot. Casey (a soulbond) and I like different types of fashion a ton, I like thrill rides and going to clubs and shows. We don't have a lot but we work it out so at least our most frequent fronters get to indulge a little sometimes - it's great if you can find something multiple ppl like
🔥 Your tulpa's sense of... mmm, let's say wisdom? Will be a bit different from yours. We're in a weird position - we're in a brain that's lived a whole biological life up to that point, with lots of experiences and instinctive patterns and understandings and shit built into us, cus that's just how the brain works. We also can look at the host's memories whenever we want, barring any outside issues. But at the same time we're also straight up *new,* thrown into the world without most of a childhood to grow up in (usually) or an entire life to build up a sense of self and figure ourselves out. We can see host's memories but they're not Ours, we didn't experience em. Y'know how teenagers are kinda weird and flip-floppy sometimes because they're still figuring themselves out? A lot of tulpas can be the same way, especially when we're new. They might go back and forth on basic opinions, struggle to understand topics you get already, sorta just miss things sometimes, or become super singleminded when they find something that gives them a sense of self. Basically just give your tulpa a wide range of things to do/try, and understand that we're pretty much speedrunning all the emotional + logical development that most hosts had their whole lives to work on.
✨ If anyone else has any other ideas go ahead and reblog + add stuff!!! ✨

🪷 from the created system ask game (it was the one about advice to those interested in creating a headmate/system member, in case the emoji doesn't work)
" 🪷: What would you say to a singlet interested in willomancy/tulpamancy/paromancy/etc.? What would you say if they were a system? "
Ooh, this is a really good question, thanks for asking!! We'll try and give something that isn't the usual "creating a headmate is a serious decision, they're people and need to be treated as equals", etc etc etc stuff
🪷 Singlets: You've probably heard a few times that creating a headmate means you're responsible for treating them as a person and allowing them the same freedoms you have if possible. And it's true, a created headmate is a friend for life with a special, indescribable connection you'll always share. But something I didn't really consider back when I (thought I) was a singlet, is that your lives and interests will flow into each other because you live intertwined.
I have a respect and appreciation for coquette and lolita fashion because of our soulbond Casey when previously I avoided ""girly"" or frilly or extravagant things entirely; I go out more because our tulpa Badeline gets stir crazy faster than the hosts. I know it sounds like a lot right now, and yes some active work does need to be put in for balance to be kept, but the transition will be so natural you barely even notice it when it happens. I remember looking around our room one day and realizing about 40% of it has some influence from someone outside the Prism behing getting it.
Basically, don't forget that when properly nurtured, deciding on created plurality will change your life. It's a significant decision, but in our humble, biased opinion, it is worth it.
🪷 Systems: Hmmm this is a bit trickier and almost depends more on what kind of created headmate you're working with and what you're used to experiencing within your system. I'll try and encompass as many different things as I can think of. In general, based on what we've seen from ourselves and others, created members tend to operate a little differently than those of other origins.
For example, if you're familiar with that half-formed vague new headmate/alter/etc feeling, or the ability to sense your members' presences, those abilities are very similar to the feeling you'll experience while forming a created member such as a tulpa, willomate, etc.
If you're used to intense splitting, it's much more of a gentle and gradual process. "Head pressures" is the tulpamancy term for the headaches that a tulpa can induce during forming, so some pain is common, but in our experience it's much less bad if you have experienced polyconsciousness already.
Created headmates can also be a very influential way to grow skills such as communication, controlled fronting, headspace control, and breaking down dissociative barriers. When we're at our worst fog and unable to hear nearly anyone else at all, very often the only people able to reach front will be our tulpas and soulbonds. I very much credit our skills in communication, headspace control, switching, and more to having started our plural journey in tulpamancy. If you struggle with dissociative barriers there's a significant chance that a created headmate (especially a tulpa, willomate, paromate, etc) will be able to traverse those barriers better than others in the system.
Depending on if the created headmate is sourced and how connected they are to that source, they may take a while longer to form a web of certain opinions, likes, desires, etc than a system member that just pops in, formed in the background, split roughly, etc. Make sure to give them a broader timespan to fully "come together" than your other headmates, even if you do form them slowly.
That reminds me- most tulpamancy guides say a tulpa takes at least three months to a year to fully form, and most soulbonding guides require and intimate understanding of the character which takes time and dedication in of itself. Our experience with our first tulpa as a then-monoconscious pluregg took around six months to be fully communicative. However, after experience with polconscious plurality, we found the process only took a month or two to complete. We believe this is because a lot of tulpamancy is building the essential skills required, and bypassing that makes the process take a lot shorter. This lines up with accounts from other veteran tulpamancers (that aren't otherwise plural) who say that their second or third tulpas took a much shorter time than their first.
🪷 I hope any of this is helpful to people seeing this!!

Potential Red Flag that More than Tulpamancy Is Happening
If you and your tulpa(s) randomly switch (as in neither party consciously initiated it) or experience involuntary switches, that is not normal in Tulpamancy. Switching isn't random or involuntary in Tulpamancy; it's most often a mutual agreement between systemmates and a conscious thing that occurs. Tulpas don't randomly take front without warning or involuntarily in response to certain stimuli.
If you experience random/involuntary switching more than the random freak occurrence, you should look into dissociative disorders because this may be a symptom of something like DID.

Last night, I randomly remembered that Simply Plural let's you log out. I logged out and went to my second email and....

This was November of 2024. We were a willogenic and questioning traumagenic system of 5.
Now, we have 50 residents across 4 systems, two groups, and and additional 2 imagis and gained one today from a dream that revealed he was around back then and just lurking :)
This is all to say that if you're struggling to form your system or headmates, just wait. It takes time for systems and headmates to form and while we were lucky to split heavy and have headmates take up identities to reveal themselves to us, we have had our moments where we've been upset and thought we were failing at being a system.
Communication is only through shared emotions and affecting the thoughts of the fronter but we've learned that this is just how we work. Even if we don't have verbal communication, we can always work towards it and we think YOU, dear reader/s, should remember that!
It's going to be difficult, you'll doubt yourselves, you'll be fakeclaimed, but in the end, just keep going. Forming a system is literally fake it til you make it and brother, we've made it and the screenshot is, as mentioned, from only 6 months ago and we've grown this much. Educate yourself, relax, turn forming into an easy hobby of talking to someone in your head, and you'll go places, I assure you.
Just remember; have fun, make sure everybody is happy and healthy, fake it til you make it, and the author of the DSM–5 confirmed in an email that plurality can form without the trauma criteria.

Unseen Companions: An Exploration Into Tulpas

In occultism we often encounter phenomena that blur the boundaries between the physical and the metaphysical. One such fascinating concept is the Tulpa, a thought-form that can become and independent person, albeit without a physical body.
History
The concept of Tulpas can be traced back to ancient Tibetan Buddhism. The term 'Tulpa' is derived from the Tibetan word 'sprul-pa', meaning emanation or manifestation. According to Tibetan traditions, Tulpas are consciously created entities, formed through spiritual discipline and intense concentration. The mystics and monks practiced this technique for spiritual enlightenment and to manifest aspects of the Divine.
In the early 20th century, theosophist Alexandra David-Neel brought the idea of Tulpas to the West through her exploration of Tibetan mysticism. She reported creating a Tulpa herself in the form of a jolly monk, which later took on a life of its own and had to be dissolved. Her tales sparked a Western fascination with Tulpas that exists to this day.
The Art of Tulpa Creation
Creating a Tulpa requires an extraordinary amount of focus, discipline, and psychic energy. It involves concentrating intensely on a detailed image of the entity one wishes to create until it becomes self aware and autonomous. The process can be similar to visualizing a character in a novel, but with a degree of concentration that makes them independent of the creator's direct control.
The intention is to form a sentient being with its oen consciousness, emotions, and memories. This entity exists in the creator's mind but can interact with their creator and possibly others, depending on the adeptness of the practitioner. For most people it takes monk-like levels of mental effort to generate a self-sustaining Tulpa.

The Nature of Tulpas
In the Western tradition, Tulpas are similar to spirits known as servitors, and even familiars that can be acquired through demons. The difference however is that Tulpas aren't necessarily completely subservient to their creator as they have greater autonomy. This is why creating one is a delicate process that requires careful consideration.
Tulpas, being sentient entities, can exhibit a wide range of behaviors. They can offer companionship, advice, or assistance in self-improvement, much like an unseen friend or adviser. They often possess their own distinct voices, personalities, and perspective.
Tge key factor is the creator's intention: if the creation process is approached with positive intentions and mindfulness, the resulting Tulpa will likely reflect those qualities. If the intentions are negatively oriented, the Tulpa could prove a dangerous companion to deal with.
Tyler Durden from the movie Fight Club comes to mind here. Tyler is essentially a Tulpa, a creation of the movie's protagonist, albeit an unconscious creation. Tyler Durden has a mind of his own, but he doesn't have a physical body. However, his influence creates chaos and mayhem and is the brilliantly creative driving force of the movie.
Having said that, the movie does not limit Tyler's existence to that of a purely mental construct confined within the mind of the protagonist. He lacks the 'paranormal' autonomous aspect a real Tulpa can exhibit, that has beeb evidenced by paranormal researchers, practitioners, and monks who've delved deep into this practice.
Tulpas can also be created and used for sinister purposes and by those engaging in dark or baneful magick, such as seeking revenge against a particular person. The risks to this are the Tulpa staying active longer than initially intended or even having the target shift to its own creator.
It's important to remember that Tulpas, once formed, can evolve and change just like any sentient being, bringing a layer of complexity akin to that of a human.
Modern Tulpamancy
In more recent years, a sort of subculture of 'Tulpamancers' has developed within the occult community, consisting of individuals who create and interact with Tulpas. Tulpamancy, in its modern form, often blends traditional Tibetan concepts with contemporary psychological theories. Some even approach Tulpas from a purely psychological perspective, viewing them as manifestations of the subconscious rather than metaphysical entities.
There are various ideas akin to Tulpa creation present within chaos magick. Chaos magicians are very keen on creating new spiritual entities through the use of their own mind, rather than relying on authoritative texts to summon those that already exist.

How to Create a Tulpa
Harnessing the magickal power to create a Tulpa requires a steadfast commitment and a deep understanding of oneself. It involves fine-tuning your mind, cultivating your spiritual energy and journeying within to interact with the unseen aspects of reality.
Attempting to create a Tulpa would be an enriching experience for any aspiring practitioner. The steps for creating your own Tulpa to act as a friend, advisor, guide, ally, lover, or even perhaps, partner in crime, are as follows:
• Prepare your mind- Before embarking on this journey you must prepare yourself mentally and spiritually. This involves regular meditation to calm the mind and enhance concentration. Explore your intentions behind creating this Tulpa. Cultivate an environment that supports concentration and introspection such as a quiet room or a spot in nature. The presence of specific crystals, incense, or spiritual talismans can enhance this process.
• Visualize your Tulpa- The next step is to visualize your Tulpa. What do they look like, how do they sound, move, or react? Begin by visualizing their appearance, slowly adding more layers of complexity over time. This process should not be rushed, it's important to create a consistent, stable image.
• Forge a personality- Once you have a clear image, you can start developing your Tulpa's personality. Consider their traits, likes, dislikes, and quirks. Much like an author breathing life into a character, imbue your Tulpa with depth and dimensionality. This step strengthens the bond between you and your Tulpa and provides a basis for future interaction.
• Interact with your Creation- After the previous steps are well established, you can begin interacting with your Tulpa. Start with simple conversations, slowly progressing towards more complex dialogues. Be patient and persistent. Over time your Tulpa should begin to respond with more independence.
• Foster your Tulpa's Independence- The final step is acknowledging and fostering your Tulpa's sentience and independence. This step is often reached when your Tulpa can surprise you with their responses of actions, indicating they're no longer simply a reflection of your conscious thoughts. Treat your Tulpa with respect, acknowledge their autonomy, and allow them the freedom to grow and evolve.

Tulpanomicon, by Within
Content: Rated PG-13 due to a few paragraphs about sexuality.
Medium: Book.
Genre: Nonfiction.
About: A handbook for understanding certain types of plural experiences. Specifically, headmates who are intentionally created, by methods developed in the tulpamancy community. Tulpamancers have different vocabulary and aims than the multiple community. Their purpose is to explore what the mind can do, apply the scientific method, and thoroughly document and question everything. As a result, they collect many observations that can be useful for other types of plural systems. I recommend this book to all plural systems, because it has solid advice for how to interact and work together within one's own system. It has experiments for figuring out whether a headmate is functionally an independent individual, and other questions about how our mind(s) work.
To feature this zine created by Within, I included it in my itch.io collection on plurality. I'm doing this series of Tumblr posts reviewing and featuring other people's creations with links to where you can see them on itch.io to celebrate and draw attention to the cool stuff that folks make.

Endogenic system with 5 Ninja Turtles here! (See blog for details) Basically our question is, how do we let them front?
In other words there seems to be some blockage when trying to get the boys to switch and it can be quite physically draining to be honest. Thoughts and advice would be appreciated.
(Aiden- host He/him)
Yeaahh this was probably sent ages ago but I might as well still respond! We've gotta buncha guides for ya, basically
Felights' Fronting Fundamentals | Possession & Switching Guide
Ford's Double Ascended Switching Guide for Elite Class Tulpamancers (video series)
Ghost Switching [A Beginner-Friendly Switching Guide]
These are all hosted on Tulpa.info!! For some personal tips - it being draining is TOTALLY natural, and pretty much expected. switching and actually staying in front are both learned skills esp for tulpamancers & other systems that dont instinctively switch, and it takes a lotta energy. If you practice over time you'll get less exhausted. As for that blockage, have u considered that maybe it has to do with u? One of the first things we learned is that switching is a process on both ends- yeah, the tulpa/nonfronting headmate needs to learn to control the body and all, but the host also needs to learn to let go and allow the switch to happen. It's tricky and also somethin' you needa learn over time. Just an idea!

Heya! Tulpa here, this is the basic outline my Master used to create me:
-Come up with a form. Draw them, use Picrew, whatever. Commit this form to memory so you can picture them in your mind easily. And not just visuals, try to come up with all the senses: what textures do they have on their skin and clothes? Do they have a scent? Do you have an idea for how their voice would sound? And bear in mind this can all change as your tulpa evolves, so don't get too attached to any of their form.
-Come up with a personality. Are they cheerful, shy, brave, horny, funny, playful, romantic, whatever you want really! And what's you relationship with them? Master/pet, parent/child, buddies, lovers?
- Consider designing a Wonderland. This is like a mindscape where you interact with your tulpa. It's not a necessity but many tulpamancers find it useful. And start simple: a room, a garden, a void, my Wonderland is currently a vast fantasy landscape with landmarks, biomes and NPCs, but started out as simple as a garden from my Master's childhood.
-put time aside for them as often as possible, every day if you can. Sit down somewhere quiet and peaceful and visualise them as clearly as you can, in the Wonderland if you have one. And then just...talk to them. Chat with them, talk about yourself, your day, whatever you like really, but do so with the mindset of "this person I'm talking to is sentient and understands me and can respond to me", even if they're completely unresponsive. It'll take time, but with enough focus and practice, eventually they WILL respond. Fake it until you make it, my Master always says :p
Anyway, hope that's all helpful!
I want a tulpa
I know how but i need to know.. uh- tips?
Like talking to myself i'm a creative person with a open mind, and healthy body/mental state.. just want a mind/headmate!
how do i make a form?? how.. Like how do i do it?? I already know the basic rules like don't force them to be such a way, you're like a parent-
etc etc
I already watched therian territories videos overall i agressively want a headmate!

hello? i hope this is not much bother, but i was wondering if i/we could get some advice.
(tw anti endo, fakeclaiming)
so. our collective found out that a friend of ours that we haven't spoken to in a long while is anti-endo. problem is, they aren't aware of our traumagen, plus other origins? and we are pretty sure they are a singlet, but they put endo systems in quotes like we aren't real. and we really wanted to talk to them again, but we are still very scared...
we have yet to confront them about it, but is there anything we can say/offer them to help them understand endogenic systems aren't bad? or should we give it up completely?
thank you for taking your time to read this,
-Kris from 🏢🪐 collective
hey, every person is different, and we may not have a perfect answer on how you can convince this person of the validity of endogenic systems. we’ve found that, for many, but not all anti endos, they may bury their head in the sand and refuse to listen to reason, be respectful, or acknowledge research that explores plurality without trauma. sometimes they may feel like the community or self-righteousness they feel from being anti endo makes it worth being ignorant. sometimes they’re uninterested in change because the concept is scary or difficult for them.
that being said… here are some things you may do.
first - maybe just talk about the vastness of the plural spectrum. talk about how plurality simply means being more than one, nothing more. talk about how plurality can often be a symptom of dissociative disorders, but is not a disorder in and of itself.
second - establish that as a rule, you don’t like to police the lived experiences of others, and maybe they shouldn’t either. that individuals know what they’re going through more than anyone else ever could. that trying to dictate what someone else can and cannot experience is in poor taste, especially when not backed by research.
third - and as far as research goes… we have two thoughts.
research that studies dissociative disorders doesn’t prove or disprove endogenic plurality. it has little to nothing to do with endogenic plurality. so the research that claims that you need trauma in order to form a dissociative disorder is talking about just that. dissociative disorders. not plurality as a whole.
also, there is research that acknowledges plurality without trauma. the language they use may be different, and they may never say “endogenic systems,” outright, but it’s still there. here are some of our favorite studies into different forms of multiplicity that don’t inherently involve traumagenic origins:
‘I’ve learned I need to treat my characters like people’: Varieties of agency and interaction in Writers’ experiences of their Characters’ Voices
Conceptualizing multiplicity spectrum experiences: A systematic review and thematic synthesis
The Inner Vehicle: Prayer, Tulpamancy, and the Magic of the Mind
in the end, if you haven’t spoken to this friend in a long time, it very well may be best to leave this alone and go your separate ways. they might feel slighted if you want to reconnect for the sole purpose of convincing them that they’re wrong about something. at the very least, if you do reconnect, maybe spend some time getting to know each other again and reforging your connection before bringing the topic of endogenic systems into the discussion.
finally, know that your origins and your system are both valid regardless of what this person or anyone else thinks. it could be worth it for you all to spend some time reaffirming your identities and finding some form of internal validation before having these discussions. don’t let their thoughts or closed-mindedness change the way you view yourselves, if you are certain about your origins. no one else’s opinions of you, your system, or your validity should matter - you all exist, regardless of what anyone else thinks.
we know that doing something like this can be tricky and difficult. if you want further information, we answered an ask over a year ago with some common misconceptions anti endos have about endogenic plurality, which we’ll link here in case y’all might find it useful:
sorry this got so long, but we hope it helps. good luck to you with having these difficult conversations with your friend.

Hi, I heard you know a lot about plurality. (T.W: mention of my suicidal thoughts)
I may have split an alter (or alters?) due to suicidal thoughts and anxiety. I do not have DID. I heard a male voice in my head that told me not to kill us, and the alter 'Ethan' as he called himself actually stayed with me, chatting in headspace. He mentioned there were other alters (including someone called Sarah) but refused any questions. I got a bit better, and I haven't heard him before or since.
Is this plurality? I'm not sure if I want it. I have identity issues. If you can become a system through tulpamancy, is it possible to reverse the process, and become singlet?
This could be plurality but it's complicated with the details given.
I'm going to give you the non-plural possibility first.
I'm not sure exactly what you mean when you say that he stayed with you. Was it days? Weeks? Or was it only hours? If it was just a few hours, one thing I want to mention is...
Ephemerals
I believe that a true headmate comes with some form of permanence. At least appearing a couple times. There are temporary non-headmate entities even singlets have that I call "ephemerals." These will only last for a single interaction and then won't appear again.
The most common type of ephemeral is a dream character. You go to sleep and there are these other people in your dreams and you can talk to those people and they can answer questions about themselves. But then as the dream ends, so do they.
These non-headmate entities can create memories of their own. If you ask them a question, they can answer those questions and be seemingly sincere about the answers even if they don't make sense. (This is called confabulation.)
When you are in a state of exhaustion and sleep deprived, you may experience sleep-like symptoms.
I think it's entirely possible that this is all that Ethan was. You may not have been asleep, but you also may not have been entirely in your right mind.
If you have a psychotic disorder or you were sleep deprived at the time or you were on some type of drugs that could cause hallucinations, that could explain an accidental ephemeral popping up.
If Ethan existed for longer than a day, then he would be a headmate.
(This is also a bit of a spectrum and some ephemerals can become headmates through repeated interaction.)
Reconsidering DID
You say that you don't have DID. And that may well be the case. But it could also have just not been found yet, and I think it would be irresponsible to not mention the possibility.
A lot of people who suffer from suicidal ideation have some history of childhood trauma. You mentioned identity issues which could be linked to dissociation. There are a lot of red flags in this that make me think that DID should be a consideration.
And losing contact with Ethan could be a result of changing mental states. A lot of systems will have trouble talking to each other for a little while after certain changes. New medications seem to be frequent factors in harming communication, for example.
What should you do now?
My advice would be to do nothing at the moment.
If Ethan was an ephemeral, further interaction could cause him to develop into a headmate which you don't seem to want.
If he's not, looking for headmates that are dormant at the moment could threaten the stability you've found.
When Ethan or another headmate tries to make contact, listen to them and talk to them. But in the meantime, just live your life.
And absolutely do not try to get rid of your headmates
There is a method that some have used to get rid of tulpas called dissipation. This is a process of intentionally ignoring a tulpa until they eventually stop talking.
This is traumatic for many tulpamancers, and trying to dissipate an alter is even worse since many of them have been around for years. This can breed hatred and internal conflict that can make your life Hell.
And it doesn't really work. Or, it doesn't seem to get rid of them permanently. What it likely does is cause dormancy for a little while, but it's always possible for them to come back. Which is basically the state you are in now, meaning trying to do this would be pointless anyway. 🤷♀️
There is also fusion as an option which is one potential goal for recovery in DID but is also possible for other types of systems, but it requires the consent of both parties.
Since you are stable right now and functionally a singlet for the time being, I don't see the point in trying for this at the moment.
Also, just personally, if Ethan is still there, I don't think it's right to try to get rid of someone who tried to save your life.

is it possible to heighten amnesia
yes, it is possible, but i would need a bit more details. do you want to leave some specific memories out? or are you trying to completely block years of life?
anyway, i know very little about your situation, so general advice: meditations. it's a baseline in tulpamancy, it helps a lot if you can meditate. i didn't focus on increasing my amnesia, but i did a few things for dissociative barriers between me and my headmates (traumagenic and tulpagenic, i have both). so, what you can do:
(before you read further: keep in mind that i'm coming from my personal experience only. i'm not your direct mentor nor a couch or a teacher, i only give unprofessional advice, so please research into that topic more outside of my answer, and find what works best for you)
- in meditations, try to visualize fog/mist around memories you want to block. if your mind tries to dig into them, stop it. let it gather around, but never touch. because you don't remember this thing anymore, you don't know what's below that fog. focus on that. feel the calm and ease
- if you want a different headmate/tulpa to hold those memories, ask them to help you first, then enter the meditation together with them. they probably can improvise from there, but you can gently direct them to taking those fogged memories from you and accepting them. in future, whenever some of memories start to slip into your mind, stop this process and ask the headmate to hold them far away from you
- trick your mind. another way of handling unwanted memories (instead of throwing them at another headmate): try to remember a completely different stuff. pretend you're helping your brain, but focus on another thing. example: you want to heighten your amnesia on your 5th grade of school. when you unexpectedly start remembering that, focus on remembering some unimportant day or month from your life. maybe, adopting a stray bird. it didn't happen? even better! now your mind can't understand why it can't remember your 5th grade. did i word it correctly? i really hope i explained it in understandable way...
but please remember it's a sensitive territory. you have to be careful with your brain. good luck!

We have a question. Does anyone have experience with developing/changing their traumagenic headmates with tulpamancy? Do you have any tips on how to go about it? Because one of our headmates seems to be fusing, and 1) none of us want that to happen 2) it would be objectively better for all of us if he doesn't fuse. The tulpamancy was mostly his idea. However, we have almost no experience with it (tried it once when we were about 13, got bored on the second day). So, if anyone has any advice, it'd be greatly appreciated!

Maybe a silly question. If a writer has a character of theirs they'd want as a proper headmate, how could they go about encouraging that to happen?
Ooh.
So. That happens so naturally for us, and has been for our entire life, that we aren't exactly the best people to ask about that. Like, for us, it happens when we think of the character's name and general demeanor. Just, boom, new person. Like that.
But, it's possible to do for some (or many) people, even if it doesn't come naturally.
If you're already a system, it's going to come a little easier.
If not, it's basically a process called tulpamancy or creating a thoughtform. You're going to find a lot of good, solid, reliable advice in tulpamancy resources.
But, essentially, it boils down to spending some time very day living with that character until they start acting on their own.
You get a lot of that by just writing tons of stories about them, actually. And when you're doing it, you might mentally ask them, "What would you do or say here?" And you might start feeling an intuitive sense of what they're response would be.
You can do this without writing, too, but just imagining new stories and scenarios they could be in, including things you are doing right that moment. You could go shopping and ask your mental image of them, "What do you want for dinner?"
And you just kind of keep that up until they eventually start volunteering or initiating interactions on their own.
It helps if you give them explicit permission to do that, too, of course.
Another thing you can do is spend time pretending to be them. But, like, take time to get into character about it. Slip into the zone so that your natural reactions and mannerisms are like theirs. Reading up on method acting can help with this.
What that will do is give your body the muscle memory and practice of being like them that they can then use when they do front. It also trains your whole brain to get into the mode of being them.
If you're not so keen on them being able to front, don't do that, of course.
And, that's about all the advice we can give.
Beside, be gentle with your self and your character. And patient. And, also, realize, that if you're serious about this that you are creating a person, a separate entity that you have to share your body with for the rest of your life.
So choose wisely and raise them well.
There are people who try for years and never get it to happen. So, there is some sort of neurodiversity involved in the process.

Astra: Some more random syscourse ramblings to put my thoughts to paper:
In my response to anti-endos and other confused systems I often point out that tulpamancy isn't a spiritual practice but a specific type of endogenic plurality. This is actually kind of misleading, however. It's not misleading in that tulpas aren't a form of endogenic plurality. They absolutely fit by definition (although this is also a draining of nuance which deserves a post on our main blog @thecandlelightsociety ), but the majority of tulpamancers don't so easily fit by community and culture.
To put it simply, the tulpamancy community and the endogenic and plural community have very different cultures from eachother. These differences come from a few key factors that should be kept in mind.
Some of these factors are:
1. Separate community starts and development in isolation. For a long time the two communities only bumped into eachother on occasion, and at least on the tulpamancy side the plural community was seen as strange and misinformation heavy, but also seen with curiosity for what could be used to improve the practice. It wasn't until later in the community timeline that the two groups started to directly interact and mix, with mixed spaces now being much easier to find.
2. Different approaches to understanding plurality/tulpas and how that affects worldviews. Tulpamancers have a much more experimental and analytical approach to how tulpas work and develop, while the plural community often runs far more on emotion and empathy first, accepting a much wider slew of experiences without as much skepticism. Both communities have a wide range of experiences more and less believable than others, but tulpamancy culture promotes focus on what makes an experience, while plural culture will focus on assuring the validity of the experience.
3. Lack of exposure to non tulpa plurals leading to tulpa specific concepts, models, and advice being common which may be incompatible with wider plurality. Building off the first two's points, the tulpamancy community has beliefs and advice which can work well for us, but could be useless or actively negative to many plurals. Concepts like these include dissipation, host/tulpa dynamics, approaches to system health, and others. This certainly doesn't apply for everything, and we know many non tulpa systems who have benefitted from a tulpamancy switching guide, or have made tulpas for their system. There's just a certain amount of caution needed when adapting concepts from one group over to the other, especially for tulpamancy and CDD interactions.
4. Roots going back to 4Chan instead of Tumblr. This one doesn't need much elaboration. 4chan has a very different set of rules compared to tumblr, and some of those subcultural views persist despite tulpamancy mainly being a reddit and discord focused community now.
5. Different demographics leading to different things being commonly accepted or taboo socially and politically. For instance, the tulpamancy has a much larger center to right wing demographic than the plural community, even though both still have large left leaning populations. This can lead to more ideas and perspectives in the tulpamancy community which would be frowned upon in the plural community, and vice versa.
These are just some of the things to keep in mind when discussing the tulpamancy community specifically in comparison to the usual broader endogenic label and plural community. As always with this blog, please remember that this post does not contain nearly the full nuance of the situation and subculture. We are a stressed procrastinating college student who has worked on and off on this and other post drafts all year in short bursts. Some of it is definitely going to be biased and scatterbrained.
Thank you for reading, and we're always open to asks even if we're not the fastest at responding!
